SIM privacy, legal claims and official reporting

Check legal claims against current official texts and avoid treating a blog headline as authority to access private subscriber records.

Prepared 8 October 2026 · General guidance; check current provider requirements

Questions about subscriber records, investigations and data protection depend on current law and the facts of the case. This page explains how to verify a legal claim; it does not give a ruling on a specific dispute.

Check the actual source

Use Pakistan Code and the relevant Gazette or official notice. Check amendments and commencement dates. A proposed data-protection bill should not be described as an effective law without confirming its status.

Police access and private lookup sites

An authority's ability to request records through a lawful process does not establish that a member of the public can buy the same data. Do not infer permission from a website's “legal database” label.

Do not copy a maximum penalty into a complaint as if it automatically applies to your situation. Ask the receiving authority or a qualified lawyer about the correct provisions and procedure. We do not repeat unverified PECA penalty tables.

Practical next step

Preserve evidence and use reporting routes. For a dispute about disclosure of your information, record the source and the specific information exposed without redistributing it.
