PTA IMEI check and PTA DIRBS check: a simple guide
Understand the difference between phone registration and SIM ownership, and use official PTA device-checking channels for PTA IMEI check and PTA DIRBS check.
On this page
An IMEI identifies a mobile device. A SIM connects your subscription to the network. A device-status check and a SIM registration check answer different questions.
Find the device identifier
Open the phone’s settings and look for its device information. Many phones also display identifiers when you enter *#06# in the dialler. A phone with more than one cellular identity can show more than one IMEI. Keep each identifier private.
Use PTA’s official service
Start at PTA’s DIRBS website and follow the current device-verification instructions. PTA’s indexed DIRBS instructions describe sending an IMEI by SMS to 8484. Check current availability and any messaging charge before using that option.
Read the returned status carefully. If the status is unclear, save the exact message and ask PTA or the operator what it means for that device.
Before buying a used phone
Compare the identifier shown in the device with the paperwork. Ask the seller to resolve a discrepancy before you pay. A registration result alone does not prove the seller owns the phone, the hardware is genuine or the purchase is safe.
If registration is required
Follow the official Device Registration System and its current eligibility and payment instructions. This guide does not calculate duties, promise an exemption or offer an approval shortcut. Never change or clone an IMEI to bypass a restriction.
