SIM SAFETY

Live tracking and finding your own lost phone

Use account-based lost-device tools for your own phone and understand why a phone number alone is not a public live-location service.

Prepared 8 October 2026 · General guidance; check current provider requirements

To find your own lost phone, use the device maker's account-based recovery tools. A number entered into a random “live tracker” does not establish reliable access to a phone's current GPS location.

Android and iPhone recovery

For Android, start with Google's Find Hub instructions. For iPhone, use Apple's Find My guidance. Sign in only through the official service.

What you can do depends on the device, its settings and its connection or available location information. A map may show a last-known position rather than where the phone is now.

Protect the connection too

Contact your operator about blocking the lost SIM and getting a replacement. A device lock and a SIM block are different actions. Read lost or stolen SIM replacement.

Stay safe during recovery

Do not go alone to confront someone at a map location. Keep device identifiers, purchase evidence and incident details for the relevant authorities. Be suspicious of messages asking you to remove the device from your account or reveal a passcode to recover it.

Tracking someone else

Use consensual location sharing when everyone involved agrees. For a safety emergency, contact the appropriate emergency service. This site does not provide covert tracking or location lookup by number.
