SIM blocked or no service: find the right next step

Separate coverage, handset, SIM and registration problems before requesting a replacement or complaint investigation.

Prepared 8 October 2026 · General guidance; check current provider requirements

No service can have several causes. A signal problem alone does not establish that PTA blocked your SIM. First work out whether the issue follows the phone, the SIM or the location.

Quick checks

Restart the phone, confirm airplane mode is off and check that the correct line is enabled. If safe and practical, test your SIM in another compatible phone. Ask whether other customers nearby have the same problem.

Ask the operator

Report the exact error, location, time and recent changes. Ask whether the account has a service restriction, identity-record issue, inactive status or a replacement request. Keep any case number.

Watch for an unauthorised swap

Unexpected loss of service together with password-reset alerts is more concerning than a signal failure alone. Use the SIM-swap response guide and contact the operator through a trusted route.

Check the device separately

If several working SIMs fail in one phone, review IMEI and DIRBS guidance. Do not buy an unofficial unlocking or identifier-changing service.
