SIM SAFETY

eSIM security and safe phone changes

Protect eSIM activation information and ask your operator about transfer, replacement and loss procedures before changing devices.

Prepared 8 October 2026 · General guidance; check current provider requirements

An eSIM removes the need for a removable plastic card, but the account still needs protection. A fraudulent replacement or account takeover remains a concern. Do not treat eSIM as proof that a connection cannot be misused.

Keep activation details private

Treat an activation QR code and related account details as sensitive. Do not post them in support groups or share them with an unverified seller. Follow the operator’s official setup instructions for your device.

Before moving to another phone

Ask about supported devices, transfer steps, identity checks and current fees. Keep the old device available until the provider confirms the correct sequence. Do not assume deleting a profile cancels the subscription.

If the phone is lost

Use device-recovery tools and contact the operator to secure the line. Ask how the replacement profile affects the old one. Test your new connection after activation.

Unexpected change notification

Treat an eSIM change you did not request as an urgent account issue. Follow SIM-swap response steps.
