SIM GUIDES

SIM cards for visitors and foreign nationals

Prepare questions about identity documents, authorised registration, device status and support before getting a Pakistani SIM.

Prepared 8 October 2026 · General guidance; check current provider requirements

Visitors should buy through an authorised operator channel and confirm the requirements for their nationality, document and intended stay. Avoid a pre-activated SIM sold under someone else's identity.

Ask before visiting

Confirm which original identity and immigration documents are required, where registration can be completed, and whether biometric or other checks apply. Ask about service validity, recharge, support and closure when you leave.

Check the handset too

Your phone's device-registration position is separate from SIM registration. Review DIRBS guidance and ask PTA about any visitor-specific process that applies to your device. Do not rely on a retailer's blanket promise of exemption.

During registration

Read the subscriber details and keep a receipt. Ensure the transaction is for the product you requested. Do not leave copies of your documents with an unauthorised reseller.

Before departing

Remove the number from account recovery if you will stop using it. Confirm closure or inactivity terms with the operator and retain any final confirmation.
