SIM SAFETY

Unwanted calls, harassment and threatening messages

Preserve useful evidence, block unwanted contact and choose an appropriate reporting route without private owner lookup services.

Prepared 8 October 2026 · General guidance; check current provider requirements

For repeated unwanted contact, keep evidence before blocking the sender if it is safe to do so. If there is an immediate threat to your safety, contact local emergency services and seek help from someone you trust.

Record what happened

Keep the number or account, date, time, relevant messages and a brief description. Preserve original files where possible. Avoid responding with threats or publishing another person's alleged identity online.

Use provider controls

Block or report the contact through your phone or messaging app. Contact the operator about persistent telecom misuse. Use the platform's reporting process for harassment on that platform.

Escalate the right issue

For suspected cybercrime, consult the current official reporting route. For a telecom-service complaint, use PTA complaint guidance. A private website offering an address from a phone number is not a substitute for an investigation.

Protect your privacy

Review who can see your photo, status and location. Tell trusted contacts if someone may impersonate you. Avoid forwarding sensitive evidence beyond those helping with the report.
