SIM SAFETY

Lost phone or damaged SIM: blocking and replacement

Block a lost connection, request an authorized replacement and protect accounts linked to the missing or lost phone.

Prepared 8 October 2026 · General guidance; check current provider requirements

If your phone is lost or stolen, contact the operator promptly about blocking the line. Ask for an authorized replacement process for your own connection. A replacement SIM does not remotely erase the lost phone.

Secure the line

Use a trusted second phone or the operator’s official online support. Explain whether the phone was lost, stolen or simply stopped reading the SIM. Record the complaint or block reference.

Protect your accounts

Use the device maker’s recovery tools where available. Review important account sessions from a trusted device. If there is evidence of financial misuse, contact the relevant provider immediately.

Request a replacement

Confirm the documents, identity checks, fee and service-centre requirements before visiting. Ask whether the old card becomes unusable when the replacement activates. Keep the receipt and test incoming calls and messages.

If the registered holder is someone else

Ask about the proper ownership procedure. Do not use another person’s identity information to impersonate them. Read SIM ownership transfer.

Find the device

See lost-phone tracking for Google and Apple recovery routes.
