How to close or disown a SIM connection
Prepare to close a recognised sim connection, protect linked accounts and confirm that the operator has completed the request.

If you no longer want a connection registered in your name, ask the operator about permanent closure or disowning. Turning off the phone or removing the SIM does not establish that the subscriber record has been closed.
Prepare first
Move account-recovery access to a number you will keep. Check email, messaging, work accounts and financial services that still use the old line. Resolve any outstanding obligations directly with the provider.
Confirm the procedure for SIM connection
Ask the operator which identity checks, eligibility conditions and charges apply to this connection. Request a receipt or reference. Keep the date of closure and ask when the registration record should reflect it.
If the line was never yours
Use unauthorized registration reporting. Explain that you dispute the registration rather than simply choosing to give up a legitimate connection.
After closure
Check the record through the approved channel and follow up on discrepancies. Do not assume the number will remain reserved for you or that you can recover it indefinitely.
